If you’re a leader in a regulated industry, you know how challenging it is to keep up with the ever-changing regulatory compliance landscape. You need to scale your compliance program to meet the demands of new regulations, standards, customers, and products. You also need to make proactive decisions that align your compliance activities with your security objectives and business operations.
To scale compliance effectively, organizations need to align their compliance activities with their security goals and business operations. They need to be prepared for the worst-case scenario — a data breach that could expose their sensitive data and damage their reputation.
In this episode of She Said Privacy/He Said Security Podcast, Jodi and Justin Daniels talk to Don India, the CEO of RadarFirst, a software solution that helps organizations automate their incident response and compliance processes. Don shares his insights on how to scale your compliance culture, how to leverage technology to optimize your time and resources, and how RadarFirst can act as a lifeboat in case of a breach incident.

Here are highlights from the discussion:
Don India: Compliance runs the spectrum of an organization from the beginning of who you’re selecting for candidates to interview to onboard all the way through the end, from a sale of a product to the after sale on how you treat your clients. Compliance is everything. If organizations aren’t thinking compliance, as the broad scale of your entire organization, from your clients, to your internal employees, to the individual corporate policies, you’re looking at compliance in a very myopic way.
Jodi Daniels: What could you offer someone listening as to what they’re doing right? Maybe is there a tactical example?
Don India: If you think about claims adjudication in an insurance business, a lot of claims are exactly the same. Insurance organizations have been able to automate that claims adjudication to reduce their costs and create consistency. If you can identify the repeatability of those processes, you can automate those, you can create playbooks and run books on a consistent basis.
Justin Daniels: How can executives and organizations make proactive decisions around scaling strategies?
Don India: Organizations have to look at compliance across the entire spectrum of the organization, not just department by department. You have to look at your technologies that are available in the marketplace that allows collaboration across your compliance efforts.
Jodi Daniels: What is your best privacy tip?
Don India: Many institutions are over-notifying on every incident, making decisions to notify someone that’s a waste of time. You have to look at the law and understand what your obligations are. Over notifying can expose your organization to reputation damage, and it’s important to optimize your notifications based on actual obligations.
